Founded in 2002, as both a dance studio and a gallery, Green Space is dedicated to providing a safe and nurturing environment for artists, teachers and students to explore technique and experience creative expansion. Green Space produces dance and theatre classes for children and adults, and hosts other courses in Tai Chi, Yoga, Salsa, Hip Hop, Tango, Swing, and Belly Dance.

The studio is 1100 sqft and has track lighting, a floating wood floor, mirrors and a built in ballet barre. Our studio/gallery is available for groups or individual artists to rent by the hour, day or weekend.

How Green Space got its name

Our beautiful studio has been a landmark of Denton for decades. In 2002, professional dancer/choreographer/teacher Karen MacIntyre returned to her hometown of Denton and purchased the building, originally constructed in 1970 by Denton dance legend, Eleanor Green, who Karen studied with from 1960-1973. The name Green Space is both a tribute to Miss Green and an artistic statement about the nature of the environment Karen wishes to provide for the community.

Karen MacIntyre (Owner/Teacher/Choreographer)

Karen MacIntyre is the owner and director of Green Space Arts Collective. She also directs New York based Triad Dance Ensemble, which has received funding through the New York State Council on the Arts since early 1990s. She holds an MFA in Dance from Texas Women's University, a BFA in Dance from the University of Texas at Austin and is a certified Montessori educator. MacIntyre's work as a dancer and choreographer has been produced at Yale University, Hofstra University, the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, and the Cunningham Studio and Nat Horne Theater in New York City. She teaches in the Dance Departments for University of North Texas and Tarrant County College.

We want to bring alternative movement and dance to the Denton community.
